SEEPZ Urban plan

SEEPZ, the first Indian SEZ (Special Economic Zone), was originally planned as a manufacturing hub for global electronics exports but is now primarily used for jewelry exports. The government is planning many more SEZ’s throughout the country and SEEPZ needs help.  Poor infrastructure, a jewelry market in decline, and much larger ‘new and improved’ SEZ’s outside the municipal district are taking a toll on tax free business in the city of 18-24 million.

Houston density-                                           3,000 people /sq. km.
Manhattan density-                                       27,000 people /sq. km.
Mumbai official density-                                48,000 people /sq. km.
Mumbai estimated informal density-             200,000 people /sq. km

Partially repurpose the declining global manufacturing SEZ as Residential and market space, recognizing the rapid population increase and growing local market with respect to the global economy.
